Risk Factors associated with Premature Deliveries among Newly Born Babies at Maternity Teaching Hospital in Mosul City, Iraq

Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the risk factors associated with premature deliveries among
newly born babies at maternity teaching hospital in Mosul city, Iraq.

Study Design: A case-control study
Place and Duration of Study: This study was conducted at maternity teaching hospitals in Mosul city. The study conducted from October 2025 to April 2026.

Methods: Purposive sampling method was used in collection the study sample at maternity teaching hospitals in Mosul city.

Results: The finding of the study mothers with gravida of >= 4 times and the spacing between pregnancy of <2
years are more likely to have preterm deliveries in comparison with mothers who are primigravida or gravida < 4 times and who have spacing of >2 years between pregnancy and the other.

Conclusion: The present study conclude that premature delivery was more common among mothers with urinary tract infection, premature rupture of membrane, bleeding and anemia compared to control groups there was significant difference between case and control groups.
