Evaluating the Effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Sessions in Enhancing PsychologicalWellbeing among Patients with Cancer

Objective: To determine the effectiveness of an educational program grounded on cognitive behavioral sessions in improving the psychological health of cancer patients.
Study Design: Quasi-experimental study
Place and Duration of Study: This study was conducted at the National Hospital of Oncology and Blood Diseases, Al-Najaf, Iraq from 1st May 2025 to 31st October 2025.
Methods: The sociodemographical data, and another with the use of the Psychological Wellbeing Scale (9 items) were recorded. The responses were recorded during pre-test, post-test 1 and post-test 2.The intervention was on four-part 40 minutes group sessions which were administered by the researcher who was also a trained practitioner in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. To guarantee that the treatment has been faithful, the researcher followed the standardized protocols of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy throughout the delivery. They were measured at two stages; the first, the immediate post-test that included the evaluation of results immediately after the intervention, and the second one, the follow-up post-test that involved the assessment of results two months after the intervention.
Results: There were mostly males 84% within age 31-40 years 38%. Majority of the participants were under chemotherapy 54%. The post-intervention were statistically significant (p<0.05) in all dimensions. The positivity towards others went up by 1.92-4.36, purpose in life grew by 1.24-4.01 and self-acceptance grew by 1.40-3.34
Conclusion: Cognitive behavioral therapy is very effective in improving psychological wellbeing of cancer patients and able to move patients out of the poor to the good level of wellbeing.
